Trinamool’s Mahua Moitra Marries Ex-MP Pinaki Misra ln Germany

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Thursday confirmed her marriage to former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) parliamentarian Pinaki Mishra, thanking well-wishers for their love and blessings.

There was speculation about their wedding, which, according to media reports, took place in a private ceremony in Germany.

“Thank you everyone for the love and good wishes!! So grateful,” Ms Moitra said in a post on X, sharing a photograph of the couple cutting a cake.

Although a picture of the pair together has appeared online and is being extensively circulated, PTI was unable to independently confirm the ceremony’s specifics despite Ms. Moitra publicly acknowledging the marriage on social media.

Currently serving her second straight term as a Member of Parliament from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, Ms. Moitra, 50, is a former investment banker who has transitioned into politics.

Before joining the TMC in 2010, she started her political career with the Indian Youth Congress. Lars Brorson, a Danish banker, was her previous spouse.

After being ousted from the House in 2023 due to accusations that she had accepted “cash” and “gifts” from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in Parliament, Ms. Moitra returned to the Lok Sabha in 2024.

The allegations, initiated by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey based on a complaint from Moitra’s friend and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, led to a parliamentary inquiry.

Ms. Moitra refuted the allegations of bribery. She was re-elected from Krishnanagar in 2024 in spite of the expulsion.

For four times, Pinaki Mishra, 65, a senior Supreme Court counsel, represented Puri, Odisha, as a member of parliament. He was also a former spouse and a seasoned BJD leader.

Across the political spectrum and on social media, the two seasoned politicians’ marriage has received a lot of attention and well wishes.

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar thanked them both.

“They are both MPs that I know. He said, “Congratulations to them both.

Ms. Moitra was also congratulated by senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh.
